How do I get an Indiana Auctioneer License?

In the state of Indiana the Law (IC 25-6.1) sets forth all the requirements to become a licensed auctioneer.
You must attend an approved course provider, such as Smith Auction Services.  A course provider should offer not less then 80 actual classroom hours of instruction. You must pass the state required tests to graduate the course. The tests include 3 during the initial course and one for the Indiana State Auctioneers Commission.

Can I learn to do the Auctioneer Chant?

Having worked with many students and listened to countless auctioneers, the answer is a definite  YES!
Each person must decide what they want their chant to sound like and then Practice, Practice, Practice!
Oh, by the way Smith Auction Services main motto is -- Practice, Practice, Practice!

Am I too Old to become an Auctioneer?

NO! There have been many successful students who started their auctioneer profession after a company downsize,
career change and even retirement.  Due to the Indiana Law requirements Smith Auction Services requires that the
student will be the age of 18 years old or older to graduate the 80 Hour Pre Licensing Course,
but being too old  - there is no such thing!

Can I learn and absorb the classroom material?

Yes!  We maintain small classes for this very purpose. Our classrooms are stress free and focus on practical skills

and show you the how-to of applying them in the areas of your Auction Business interests.

Do you offer job placement?

No, due to the independent entrepreneurial nature of the Auctioneer profession, it is not feasible for any Auction school to offer this type of service. However, from time to time we are contacted to refer an auctioneer in a specific area. Charitable organizations have requested referrals on numerous occasions.
